Joanna B. Tarnauskas

Joanna B. Tarnauskas, 88, of Housatonic died Friday at the Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Housatonic on May 31, 1915, daughter of Charles and Mary Szablak Murah, she was educated in local schools. She moved to Westfield in 1939 and to Feeding Hills in 1956, returning to Housatonic in 1972. She was a kindergarten teacher in the Agawam school system , and was a caterer for the Polish American Hall while she lived in Feeding Hills. She was a member of the Adam Budz VFW Post 8183 Auxiliary in Housatonic and contributed many quilts to the Great Barrington Senior Center bazaars. She was a communicant of All Saints' Church and a member of its Rosary Sodality. She was active in the church's summer picnic, donating her cooking skills. She was a foster grandparent for handicapped children at Berkshire Meadows. Her husband, Samuel Tarnauskas , whom she married April 10, 1939, died Feb. 12, 1972. She leaves a son, Samuel Tarnauskas of Great Barrington; a daughter, Ann Marie Crisp of Petersburg, N.Y.; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial graveside service for Joanna B. Tarnauskas, who died Oct. 10, will be held Saturday, Oct. 18, at St. Bridget's Cemetery at 10, with the Rev. Anthony Jutt, pastor, officiating. There are no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in Joanna's memory may be made to the Great Barrington Senior Center in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, which is in charge of arrangements.
