Bruce David Taft

Bruce David Taft, 44, of 11 Hartwell St., Waltham, a native of North Adams, died in his sleep yesterday morning while visiting at the home of his family at 278 Houghton St. Born on Nov. 2, 1958, son of Theresa Anne Judge Taft and the late John Robert Taft Sr., he was a 1976 graduate of Drury High School, where he was a star athlete on the track and cross country teams. He attended the former North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, and graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1981. He also completed his certified financial planner courses. Mr. Taft had been a controller at Home Market Foods in Boston for the past year. Before that, he was a self-employed accountant and had worked for New Medico Associates in Boston in its accounting department. He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 487 in North Adams. Besides his mother, of North Adams, he leaves three sisters, Maureen Moore of North Adams, Diana Taft of Adams and Patricia Donovan of Sandwich, and three brothers, North Adams Veterans' Agent John R. Taft Jr. of North Adams, Richard J. Taft of Carrollton, Texas, and James M. Taft of Littleton. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Bruce D. Taft, who died Oct. 19, 2003, will be Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 10:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Oct. 21, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the North Adams Public Library Building Fund or to Special Olympics, both in care of the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. Survivors include nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
