Francis G. Polson

Francis G. Polson, 73, of 10 Bailey Road died Sunday at home. Born in Pittsfield on March 31, 1930, son of Grover and Margaret O'Brien Polson, he attended local schools, including St. Joseph's High School. A Navy veteran, he served in the Korean War from 1949 to 1952 aboard the USS Roanoke and the USS Columbus as a seaman. Mr. Polson worked at GE for many years as a steamfitter. He also worked in that capacity in Florida and Texas. He retired in 1997 and returned to Pittsfield. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He loved animals and took in many stray dogs and cats over the years. He leaves a son, Paul Polson of Lanesboro, with whom he resided; three daughters, Marlene Polson-Lorczak of Meriden, Conn., LuAnn Browne of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Susan Polson of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Joseph Polson of Northampton; a sister, Margaret Newell of Pittsfield; his former wife, the former Lucille Ruscetta of Casselberry, Fla., and seven grandchildren. Another son, James Francis Polson, died Oct. 25, 1965. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Francis G. Polson, 73, who died Oct. 26, 2003, will be tomorrow at 1 at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends are asked to meet inside the gates at 12:45. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201, which is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Polson will be missed by his family and his loving grandchildren, Gregory and Christopher Browne, Holly and Antonio Polson, Marissa Lorczak, and Anna-Marie and Paul C. Polson; his daughter-in-law, Christina Polson; his sons-in-law, Jack Browne and David Lorczak, and his faithful dog, Oliver. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen Palmisiano.
