Heather Leigh Mead

Heather Leigh Mead, 29, of 4 Chestnut Ridge, Housatonic, died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after being stricken several days earlier. Born in Great Barrington on Sept. 3, 1974, daughter of Fire Chief Harry Jennings and Christine Baumann Jennings of Housatonic, she was a 1993 graduate of Monument Mountain Regional High School. She had attended Elms College in Chicopee, and was enrolled in the nursing program at Berkshire Community College. Mrs. Mead was employed by Berkshire Health Systems as a certified nursing assistant at both BMC and Fairview Hospital. She also had been employed for several years as a supervisor for Berkshire County Arc after graduating high school. She and her husband, James D. Mead, were married June 20, 1998, in Corpus Christi Church. Besides her parents and her husband, she leaves a daughter, Cynthia Marie Mead, and a son, Bradley James Mead, both at home; a brother, Walter Jennings of Housatonic; a sister, Jana Poworski of Orlando, Fla.; her maternal grandparents, Paul and Helen Ptak Baumann of Housatonic, and her paternal grandmother, Helena Marconi Jennings of West Stockbridge. Another son, Jacob Michael Mead, died June 28, 2001. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Heather Jennings Mead, who died Nov. 17, 2003, will be tomorrow, Nov. 20, at 9 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at Corpus Christi Church, Housatonic, by the Rev. Anthony J. Jutt, pastor. Burial will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Housatonic. The family will receive friends today, Nov. 19, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Mead Children's Trust Fund in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Survivors include many uncles, aunts and cousins. Her live was devoted to and centered around caring for her children and family, whom she loved deeply.
