Victor Burt Vareschi

Victor Burt Vareschi, 85, formerly of 368 Union St., died yesterday at the home of his son, Victor N. "Skip" Vareschi of 14 Perry St., where he had resided since July. Born in North Adams on Nov. 27, 1918, son of Giovanni M. and Maria Farinon Vareschi, he was educated in North Adams schools. Mr. Vareschi was employed by the former Florini's Italian Gardens until the outbreak of World War II. He entered the Army on March 21, 1942, and served with the Service Battery of the 306th Field Artillery Battalion as a staff sergeant in the Pacific theater, including the Philippines. He was awarded a Bronze Star. After the service, he returned to the restaurant, where he worked for a total of 14 years. He retired in 1983 from Sprague Electric Co. with 34 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 966, the Retired Men's Club, the Retired Men's bowling team, the Sprague Quarter Century and Retirees' clubs, the Friends Club at the Mary Spitzer Center and AARP. His wife, the former Delima Helen LaCombe, whom he married July 26, 1947, in St. Anthony's Church, died March 8, 2001. Besides his son, with whom he made his home, he leaves four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Victor Burt Vareschi will be Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 9:45 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Anthony's Church celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot at Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday, Dec. 15, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for St. Anthony's Church in care of the funeral home. Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Kathy Osmin Vareschi; four grandchildren, Lee and Krystal Vareschi, Katie Trala and Mandy Therrien; two stepgrandchildren, Tiffany Osmin and Samantha Zschoche; six great-grandchildren, Kayla and Victoria Therrien, Brace, Teia and Aspen Trala, and Tyle Jean Vareschi, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Henry Peter Vareschi, on May 10, 1976, and William J. Vareschi, on July 10, 1979.
