Rita J. McClintock Doherty

Rita J. McClintock Doherty, 83, formerly of St. Joseph's Court, died yesterday at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield, where she had resided for three years. Born in North Pownal, Vt., on Dec. 31, 1920, daughter of Victor and Eva Brothers Willette, she attended Pownal schools and graduated from Hoosick Falls (N.Y.) High School. She moved to North Adams in 1936 and later graduated first in her class from the first licensed practical nursing program at Charles H. McCann Technical School. Mrs. Doherty was employed as a licensed practical nurse by North Adams Regional Hospital and later by the former Adams Nursing Home in Williamstown. Prior to that, she was employed for more than 25 years by the former Sprague Electric Co. She was a longtime communicant of St. Francis' Church and a member of the Sprague Electric Quarter Century Club and the Bennington (Vt.) Club. Her husband, Francis J. Doherty, whom she married May 8, 1972, in North Adams, died Aug. 29, 2002. She leaves two daughters, Suzan J. Nicholson of Pittsfield and Penny Hoffman of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a son, Gregory McClintock of Mathiston, Miss.; a sister, Marilyn Shirley Gorman Alderman of Clarksburg, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Rita J. Willette McClintock Doherty will be Thursday at 10:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 74 Marshall St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Francis' Church. Burial will take place at a later date in the family plot in Southview Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested for HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to St. Francis' Church through the funeral home. Survivors include four grandchildren, Aaron Nicholson, Willie Hoffman, Julie Lavalette and Michael Harrington; two great-grandchildren, James and Ryan Lavalette; and two sisters-in-law, Viola Willette of North Adams and Mildred Willette of Cold Spring, N.Y. She was predeceased by two brothers, Gerald and Leland Willette.
