Susan M. Karch, 41, of Main Street died Saturday at the home of her longtime friend, Eugene Kirchner of Hillsdale, N.Y., of an apparent heart attack. Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 23, 1962, daughter of Nancy Kelly Hathaway Bates of Pittsfield and the late Richard Hathaway, she attended schools in Great Barrington and was a 1981 graduate of Monument Mountain Regional High School. She moved to Sheffield in 1986. Mrs. Karch had been employed as a nurse's aide at Willowood Nursing Home in Great Barrington in the 1980s. Besides her mother, she leaves two sons, Richard A. Karch and Robert A. Karch, both of Sheffield; a daughter, Heather M. Karch of Sheffield, and a sister, Kelly A. Hathaway of Pittsfield. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Susan M. Karch, who died Jan. 10, 2003, will be conducted Friday at 2 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee by the Rev. Gary Dailey, pastor of St. Mary's Church in Lee. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from noon until the time of the service. She was predeceased by a brother, James R. Hathaway, and her loving grandparents, Arnold and Beatrice Kelly.
