Lionel Alton Blair

Lionel Alton Blair, 91, of 6 Pinnacle Lane died early yesterday morning at home. Born in North Adams on Aug. 8, 1912, son of Charles and Emma Platner Blair, he attended local schools. He lived in North Adams and Clarksburg until moving to Adams 18 years ago. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. A master electrician by trade, Mr. Blair owned and operated the former Isbell Electric Co. in North Adams for many years, retiring 13 years ago. Earlier, he had worked as a cook at several area establishments. He was a member of First Congregational Church and served on its Prudential Committee. He was a member and past master of Lafayette Lodge of Masons in North Adams, and a member of Berkshire Lodge of Masons in Adams, a member and past patron of both Naomi Chapter 17 and Franklin Chapter 92 Order of Eastern Star and a member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion and Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW, both in North Adams. He hiked much of the northern sections of the Appalachian Trail and climbed Mount Washington at age 70. He also enjoyed cooking. His first wife, the former Olive M. Davine, whom he married Jan. 21, 1939, died Oct. 21, 1978. He and his wife, the former Helen Chase Reid, were married May 11, 1985. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Wayne E. Blair of Pownal, Vt.; a sister, Mildred Busl of North Adams, two granddaughters and three stepgrandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Memorial services for Lional A. Blair will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 24, at 11 at First Congregational Church of Adams by the Rev. Michael Mullany, pastor. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be in Clarksburg Cemetery at a later date. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to First Congregational Church of Adams through AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., which is in charge of arrangements. He was predeceased by his stepson, Richard E. Reid, and seven other siblings. He leaves his daughter-in-law, Barbara of Pownal, two granddaughters, Audrey Blair of Austin, Texas, and Lisa Blair of Tampa, Fla.; a stepgranddaughter, Kristine Milian of North Carolina and two stepgrandsons, Mark Reid of Baltimore and Erik Reid of Dunkirk, Md.; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
