Ethel James

Ethel James, 89, of 4 North St. died Tuesday at Williamstown Commons, where she had been admitted Friday. Born in North Adams on Feb. 19, 1914, daughter of Harry and Hannah Dale Johnson, she attended local schools . Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. James was employed after her husband's death as a child-care provider and a homemaker. Before her marriage, she worked at the former Windsor Printworks in North Adams for several years. Her husband, Frederick Arthur James, whom she married June 30, 1932, in St. John's Episcopal Church in North Adams, died Jan. 28, 1978. She was a member of First Congregational Church in North Adams. She leaves two sons, Frank James of East Rochester, N.Y. and Stephen James; a godson, Bruce Shepley of Adams, with whom she resided; a sister, Annie Cellana of Williamstown, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Ethel Johnson James, who died Jan. 20, 2004, will take place at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, at a later date. Burial will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for Salvation Army through the funeral home. Survivors include two grandchildren, Jayme and Macenzie; her son Frank's longtime companion, Natalie; her godson Bruce Shepley and his wife, Patricia, and their two children, Kirby and Kelsey Shepley, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
