Kathleen Mulcahy 76, of 36 Clark St. died Sunday at North Adams Commons, where she was admitted Jan. 13. Born in North Adams on Jan. 12, 1928, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Wilkinson Battersby, she graduated from Drury High School. She moved to Barre, Vt., in 1972 and returned to North Adams after her husband's death. Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Mulcahy taught special education at the Spaulding School in Barre. She was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and, while in Barre, of St. Monica's Church. Her husband, Charles Francis Mulcahy, whom she married April 12, 1947, died Nov. 15, 1984. She leaves a daughter, Colleen Gaffey of Williamstown; three sons, Charles M. Mulcahy of Clarksburg, Mark C. Mulcahy of Williamstown, Vt., and Brian J. Mulcahy of Peru, N.Y., and nine grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Kathleen Battersby Mulcahy, who died Jan. 25, 2004, will be Friday at 10:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 5 to 7. Memorial donations are suggested for the Southwestern Vermont Cancer Center through the funeral home. Survivors include her son-in-law, Matthew Gaffey, three daughters-in-law, Donna, Kimberly and Lynda, and nine grandchildren, Sara Gaffey, Katelyn Mulcahy, Tyler Mulcahy, Jennifer Szmajda, Neal Mulcahy, Lisa Mulcahy, Karen Mulcahy, Lauren Mulcahy and Samantha Mulcahy. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Shannon Kathleen Gaffey, on Dec. 8, 2003, and two sisters, Elizabeth Fitzpatrick and Jennie Hirst.
