Shirley Mae Gouger

Shirley Mae Gouger, 73, of 227 Franklin St. died early yesterday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital, where she was admitted Jan. 20. Born in Adams on March 31, 1930, daughter of Albert A. and Irene Brousso Duprey, she attended local schools, including the former Adams Memorial High School. She graduated from St. Margaret's Hospital Nurse Training School in Albany, N.Y., in 1955. Mrs. Gouger was employed by the former Waverly Fabrics Co., retiring in 1984. She also had worked in the former Berkshire Hathaway mills and for the former Giant department store in North Adams. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church. Her husband, Andrew Edward Gouger, whom she married Jan. 26, 1957, died Oct. 31, 1993. She leaves a daughter, Susan A. Solak of North Adams; a son, Peter Andrew Gouger of Hinsdale, N.H.; a brother, Russell Duprey of Cheshire; a sister, Elaine Gadebusch of Palm Harbor, Fla., and eight grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Shirley Mae Gouger will take place Friday at 8:15 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, State Road. Burial will be Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. Donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home. Two sisters and a brother are deceased: Jeanne Nadeau, Nancy Blaisdell and Robert Duprey. She was a devoted grandmother.
