Helen W. Linton

Helen W. Linton, 70, of 75 Birch St. died Sunday evening at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Boston on June 23, 1933, daughter of Patrick and Helen Nee Walsh, she graduated from Dorchester High School for Girls. She also earned two master's degrees -- in comparative literature and in English literature -- from Boston University, and a third master's degree in library science from Simmons College. She had resided in Lee since 1967. Mrs. Linton was the librarian at the Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge from 1981 until 1998. She had been head of the catalog department at the Brookline Public Library until moving to the Berkshires in 1963. She was a member of Unitarian Universalist Church in Pittsfield and the town meeting representative of District 3 for many years. She also was a volunteer at Berkshire Institute for Lifetime Learning and an avid baker. She and her husband, Thomas Linton, celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary April 15. Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Andrew J. Linton of Seattle, and a daughter, Jennifer A. Linton of Highland Park, Ill. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Helen Linton, who died April 18, 2004, will be held Saturday, April 24, at 2 at Unitarian Universalist Church, 175 Wendell Ave., Pittsfield.
