Margaret Svea Brown

Margaret Svea Brown, 91, of 70 Oleson Road died yesterday at Winchester Nursing Center in Winchester, where she was admitted in 2003. Born in Westfield on Aug. 18, 1912, the daughter of Olaf S. and Gerda Anderson Oleson, she moved as a child to Florida, where she attended Florida Elementary School. Mrs. Brown founded and managed the cafeteria at Florida Consolidated School, now Abbott School, for 15 years, retiring in the 1960s. Earlier, she had worked at the former Whitcomb Summit Restaurant. She was the oldest member of Florida Baptist Church and active in its Ladies' Aide Society. Her husband, Richard N. Brown, whom she married Nov. 16, 1929, died July 2, 1969. She leaves three daughters, Carolyn Bernier of Hinsdale, Joan Brown of Averill Park, N.Y., and Sonja Lawson of Winchester; two sisters, Christine Mullette of North Adams and Ingrid Nesbitt of Litchfield, Conn.; five grandsons, and nine great-grandchildren. A son, Kenneth Brown, died in 1936. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Svea M. Brown will be conducted Thursday, April 29, at 11 at Florida Baptist Church by her nephew, the Rev. Irving Mullette, pastor. Burial will be in Church Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 46 North Church St., North Adams. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Florida Baptist Church through the funeral home. She also leaves her closest friend, Iona E. Cole of Averill Park. Two brothers, Einar OIeson and Yngve Oleson, and a grandson predeceased her.
