Ernest John "Chuck" Cardillo Sr

Ernest John "Chuck" Cardillo Sr., 76, of East Street died yesterday morning at home. Born in Great Barrington on Sept. 2, 1927, son of Dominick and Laura DeRienzo Cardillo, he attended the former Searles High School. He lived in Sandisfield until moving to Stockbridge in 1948. He served in the Army in the Philippines during World War II. A stonemason for 55 years, Mr. Cardillo last worked for Leo Canger Construction Co. He also had delivered milk for his family's dairy farm in Stockbridge. He was a member of the Stockbridge Sportsmen's Club's horseshoe league and the Stockbridge Volunteer Fire Department, a former member of the Stockbridge men's bowling league and a former umpire for Little League baseball. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He and his wife, the former Norma Sinico, would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 12. Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, Dominic Cardillo, Vincent Cardillo and Ernest J. Cardillo Jr., all of Stockbridge, and Mark Cardillo of Great Barrington; two daughters, Debra Caffrey of Great Barrington and Linda Consolini of Lenox; three brothers, Herman Cardillo of Lee, Gerald Cardillo of Stockbridge and Frank Cardillo of Palmer; four sisters, Carmella Nardi of Great Barrington, Jenny Carilli of Mount Vernon, N.Y., Julia Drummond of Oceanside, Calif., and Phyllis Cardillo of Lee; a stepbrother, Joseph Frainee of Redwood, Calif., and 15 grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE --The funeral will be Tuesday at 9 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Joseph's Church in Stockbridge. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Stockbridge. Visiting hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Ernest J. "Chuck" Cardillo Sr. leaves his 15 grandchildren, Jennifer, Angela and Michelle Caffrey; Heather and Kristen Consolini; Christina, Brian, Richard, Dana, Christopher, Alanna, Katie, Margaret, Shane and Steven Cardillo, all with whom he enjoyed spending time; his sons-in-law, Robert Caffrey and Lawrence Consolini, and his daughters-in-law, Karen, Linda, Eileen and Julie Cardillo. He was predeceased by six brothers, Arlando, Vincent, Nicholas, Anthony, John and Richard, and a sister, Marion Cardillo. Friends wishing may make donations to HospiceCare in the Berkshires through the funeral home.
