Gladys P. Shirley

Gladys P. Shirley, 83, of 151 Main Road died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Easthampton on March 21, 1921, daughter of Zygmund and Stella Mazur Pollak, she attended schools there and graduated from high school in Queens, N.Y. She moved to Lee in 1956 and had resided on Summer Street. She and her husband, Carl Shirley, owned and operated Shirley Realty until the late 1980s. While in New York, Mrs. Shirley was employed as an executive secretary for Dilmaghani Rug Imports. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Lee and a volunteer coordinator for the Shaker Mountain Opera Company. A felt maker, she designed and made felt hats that she sold in local galleries. Her husband, whom she married February 1956, died April 2003. She leaves a daughter, Melinda L. Cambiar of Keene, N.H., a brother, Henry Z. Pollack of Montgomery, Texas, and three grandchildren. A son, Carl Shirley, died November 1990. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Gladys Shirley, who died May 10, 2004, will be Friday at 9:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 in St. Mary's Church. Burial will be at a later date in St. Stanislaus' Cemetery in Easthampton. Visiting hours will be tomorrow, May 13, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Friends wishing may make donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, NY 10605. She leaves her grandchildren Sarah, Zachary and Naomi, and several nieces and nephews.
