Irmgard B. Schumacher

Irmgard B. Schumacher, 94, of Giddings Street died Tuesday at home. Born in Berlin, Germany, on Feb. 9, 1910, daughter of Reinhold and Amanda May Balcke, she was educated there. She came to the United States in 1953 and lived in East Chatham, N.Y. She moved to Great Barrington in 1979. A homemaker, she enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. Her husband, Kasper Schumacher, whom she married in May 1939 in Berlin, died May 29, 2000. She leaves a son, Horst Schumacher of Largo, Fla.; a daughter, Ingrid Watson of Estero, Fla.; three sisters, Gertrude Bohmer, Meta Grzegorowski and Ursala Balcke, all in Germany; four grandchildren and four great-granddaughters. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Irmgard B. Schumacher, 94, of Giddings Street, Great Barrington, died on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at her home. She was a homemaker who enjoyed family most, encouraging and working with her husband in their flower and vegetable gardens. A Liturgy of the Word will be led on Saturday, May 15, at 10 by the Rev. A. Dagnoli, Our Lady of the Valley's visiting priest, at the FINNERTY AND STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. The family will see friends at the service at the funeral home.
