John F. Sleight

John F. Sleight, 94, of 75 VanDeusenville Road, Housatonic, died Friday at home. Born in West Orange, N.J., on March 20, 1910, son of Scott and Antoinette Roe Sleight, he was educated in the Kingston, N.Y., schools. He had resided in Lake Katrine, N.Y., until moving to Housatonic in 1995. A plumber, Mr. Sleight was a member of Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local 21, retiring in the mid-1970s. He was a member of Dutch Reformed Church of the Comforter in Kingston. He enjoyed bowling, motorcycles and working on cars. He once swam across the Hudson River. His wife of more than 45 years, the former Ethel M. Wager, died in 1995. He leaves a daughter, Sheila Shepardson, with whom he resided; a son, John S. Sleight of Lake Katrine; a sister, Edna Cole; a brother, Herbert Sleight of Kingston, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for John F. Sleight, who died May 14, 2004, will be tomorrow, May 17, at 11 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Fording Place Road in Lake Katrine, N.Y. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 at SIMPSON-GAUS FUNERAL HOME, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston, N.Y. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, which is in charge of local arrangement. Mr. Sleight is survived by five grandchildren, Corey, Darren and Erica Ernst, and Allison and Rachel Shepardson, and three great-grandchildren, Paul, Eleanor and Easton Ernst. He was predeceased by his twin, James Sleight, and another brother, Fred Sleight, both late of Kingston.
