Kathryn Alice Miller

Kathryn Alice Miller, 80, of 45 Southgate Road, Mount Laurel, N.J., died yesterday at Virtua Health Center, Marlton, N.J., where she had been admitted May 17. She was the wife of retired Army Lt. Col. Charles A. Miller, a native of North Adams. Born in Jersey City, N.J., on Dec. 22, 1923, daughter of Albert F. and Anna Grunwald Koenig, she graduated from Camden (N.J.) High School in 1941. She also graduated from the Cooper Hospital School of Nursing in Camden, and received a certificate of obstetrical nursing from the Margaret Haig Graduate School of Nursing in Jersey City. A decorated Army veteran of the Korean War, she enlisted in the Nurse Corps in 1949 and served from 1950 to 1952 with the 14th Field Hospital. She also did tours of duty at Letterman Hospital in San Francisco; Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Fort Monmouth, N.J., and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., from 1954 to 1958. She resigned her commission as a captain when she married, and accompanied her husband on his assignments, including to West Berlin and Tehran, Iran. Mrs. Miller was employed as a registered nurse in Hawaii, Syracuse, N.Y., and the Army's Fifth Field Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand. She retired in 1978 when stricken with rheumatoid arthritis. Before entering the service, she was chief obstetrical nurse at Cooper Hospital. Besides her husband, she leaves a brother, Albert M. Koenig of Barrington, N.J. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Kathryn A. Miller, RN, who died May 26, 2004, will be conducted Saturday, May 29, at 11 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., by the Rev. Edward King, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in the Miller family plot in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, May 28, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Arthritis Society of New Jersey, the Parkinson's Disease Foundation or the American Cancer Society through the funeral home. She also leaves two nieces and a nephew.
