Stella Rose Walto

Stella Rose Walto, 85, of 33 Sadler Ave. died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 8, 1918, daughter of Julius and Domenica Coppolino Walto, she graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1936 with high honors. During World War II, she volunteered at the former St. Luke's Hospital as a nurse's aide. Miss Walto was an executive secretary at GE and worked in its payroll department, retiring in 1982 with 45 years of service. She was a volunteer at RSVP, a founding member of the Christian Assembly Church and a secretary for the church's adult education program. She was a longtime volunteer at the Pittsfield city election polls, and a member of Berkshire Community Church in Richmond and the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. She enjoyed gardening, golfing and traveling. She leaves a brother, Virgilio J. Walto of Pittsfield. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Stella Rose Walto, 85, who died June 6, 2004, will be Thursday at 11 at Berkshire Community Church in Richmond, with the Rev. Roberta G. Heath, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., will be Wednesday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in her name be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. Besides her brother, she leaves seven nephews, Gregory D'Arcangelo, and Kenneth, David, William, Mark, James and Michael Walto; three nieces, Janet D'Arcangelo, Donna Walto and Lisa Griffin; many grandnieces and grandnephews, and a great-grandniece. She was predeceased by two brothers, Oralio and John Walto, and by a sister, Anne D'Arcangelo.
