Grace I. Dupuis

Grace I. Dupuis, 87, of Russell Street died Saturday at Fairview Commons, where she had resided for two weeks. She moved to Great Barrington in August 2001 to be closer to her daughter, Linda Lavoie. Born in Chicopee on May 27, 1917, the daughter of Alfred and Laura Lacroix Plourde, she graduated from Chicopee High School. Mrs. Dupuis retired in 1976 from Sheridan Circle Housing Co-Op in Chicopee, where she had been office manager for many years. She was a communicant of St. George's Church in Chicopee and a member of its St. Anne's Ladies' Sodality. She was also a member, past secretary and treasurer of the Chicopee Falls Women's Club. Mrs. Dupuis was a member of the Thursday Morning Club and enjoyed music, playing bridge, Scrabble and the piano, and knitting. Her husband, Alphonse L. Dupuis, whom she married Nov. 30, 1939, at St. George's Church in Chicopee, died June 18, 1973. Besides her daughter, of Great Barrington, she leaves a sister, Jeanne Bruce of Medford, N.J.; a brother, Arthur Plourde of Gardiner, Maine; two grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. Her son, Peter Dupuis, died Aug. 22, 2001. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Grace I. Dupuis, who died June 26, 2004, will be concelebrated Thursday, July 1, at 11 at St. George's Church in Chicopee by the Rev. Robert Riel, pastor, and the Rev. Daniel Papineau, MIC. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Chicopee. The family will receive friends tomorrow, June 30, from 4 to 8 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Mrs. Dupuis cherished spending time with her family. She also leaves two granddaughters, Cindy Martino and her husband, Pat, of Fallston, Md., and Becky Deane and her husband, Jeremy, of Watertown; a great-grandson, Jimmy Martino, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Valmore Plourde, and a sister, Leona Breault.
