Norman Franklin LaFleur

Norman Franklin LaFleur, 88, of 180 Friend St. died early yesterday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Adams on Feb. 13, 1916, son of Arthur and Marie White LaFleur, he attended Adams schools, graduating from the former Adams High School with the class of 1934. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the medical detachment of the Service Command Unit in the European Theater, until his honorable discharge as a sergeant in 1945. Mr. LaFleur was a carpenter by trade, and worked on many area construction projects. He was clerk of the works for the construction of Hoosac Valley Regional High School in the early 1970s. He was last employed as director of buildings and grounds for the Adams-Cheshire Regional School District, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Adams Post 160 American Legion, and served on its Building Committee when it built its present post home. He and his wife, the former Alexcina Cudak, were married Nov. 24, 1944, in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams. He leaves a daughter, Norma LaFleur of Salem, N.H.; two sons, Arthur J. LaFleur of Northampton and Michael LaFleur of Windsor; two brothers, Alan LaFleur of Adams and Daniel LaFleur of the state of Florida; four grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral will be held Saturday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at Auge-Paciorek-Simmons Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams. The Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parishes of Notre Dame and St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Stanislaus Kostka, Adams, will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Saturday from 10 until the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation through the funeral home. Mr. LaFleur also leaves two daughters-in-law, Mary Colwell of Northampton and Carol LaFleur of Windsor; four grandchildren, Gabriel LaFleur, Mariya LaFleur, Laura LaFleur and Michael LaFleur, and his wife, Raquel; a great-granddaughter, Chanice LaFleur, and several nieces, nephews and grandnephews. A brother, Archie LaFleur, is deceased.
