Millard "Midge" Eckert

Millard "Midge" Eckert, 101, formerly of Richmond, died Saturday evening at Fairview Commons, where he had resided since March 2000. Born in East Lee on Dec. 10, 1902, son of Wright and Jane "Jennie" Springsteel Eckert, he was educated in Lee schools. Mr. Eckert was employed for 34 years by the Peter J. Schweitzer division of Kimberly-Clark Corp., retiring in 1967 as a tour foreman in the machine room. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was an amateur boxer in his youth. His first wife, the former Alice J. Gop, whom he married May 6, 1939, died in March 1982. His wife, the former Beatrice Desmarais Malumphy, whom he married Oct. 30, 1982, died Nov. 17, 1996. He leaves a son, Millard R. "Mal" Eckert of Lee, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Millard "Midge" Eckert, who died July 3, 2004, will be conducted Wednesday at 2 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee by the Rev. Bert Marshall, pastor of First Congregational Church in Lee. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery in Housatonic. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Friends wishing may make donations to the Lee Historical Society, P.O. Box 170, Lee, MA 01238. Mr. Eckert is survived by his daughter-in-law, Dolores I. Eckert; his grandchildren, Edward R. Eckert, Darlene A. Baczek and Doreen M. Bartini, all of Lee, and his great-grandchildren, John and Amy Baczek and Ryan, Katie and Michael Eckert.
