Robert S. Gleason

Robert S. Gleason, 71, of Worcester, formerly of Silver Street, died Wednesday, of lung cancer at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. Born in Boston on Jan. 7, 1933, son of Gerald and Constance Sylvester Gleason, he attended schools there. He served as a medic in the Air Force during the Korean War, and with the Navy Seabees MCB 27th Reserve Unit for more than 15 years. Mr. Gleason was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Lee and Springfield for more than 30 years. For many years, he visited the Berkshire Medical Center pediatric unit dressed as Santa at Christmas. He leaves his wife of 41 years, the former Rena Brighenti; a daughter, Kelly Sullivan, with whom he resided; three sons, Kris Gleason of Worcester; Kevin Gleason of Charlotte, N.C, and Keith Gleason of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother, Larry Gleason of Boulder, Colo., and six grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Robert S. Gleason, 71, who died June 30, 2004, will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. The family asks that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carroll Family Fund in care of St. Stephen's School, 355 Grafton St., Worcester, MA 01604. The fund benefits another family that has been devastated by the loss of a loved one to cancer. NORDGREN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester, is directing arrangements. Mr. Gleason also leaves a son-in-law, John Sullivan; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Gleason of Lakeland; his grandchildren, Bailey Sullivan, Jamie, Jason, Alicia, Katelynn and Grace Gleason; his favorite aunt, Iva, of Concord, N.H.; cousins, and many nephews and nieces. Mr. Gleason had many interests but his true love was his family, especially his grandchildren. He kept his generous spirit throughout his long battle with cancer.
