George H. Karl Sr

George H. Karl Sr., 85, of 45 Church St. died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Averill Park, N.Y., on Oct. 28, 1918, son of Henry and Ella Lindeman Karl, he was a member of the first graduating class of Averill Park High School in 1936. He also attended Albany Business College. He moved to Charlotte, N.C., in 1977, to Dowling Park, Fla., in 1980, and to Lee in 1999. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Karl operated Karl Insurance and Real Estate in Averill Park from the late 1950s until retiring in 1976. He was then employed in the business office of Advent Christian General Conference headquarters in Charlotte. Before and after the war, he had worked as a business manager for the former Slaves Tractor Co. in Albany. He and his wife, the former Elizabeth Blinzinger, were married Oct. 28, 1944. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, the Rev. George H. Karl Jr. of Lee, a daughter, Dr. Linda K. Eby of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and nine grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for George H. Karl Sr., who died July 11, 2004, will be tomorrow, July 14, at 11 at Hope Advent Christian Church in Lenox with his son, the Rev. George H. Karl Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Sand Lake (N.Y.) Union Cemetery at 2:30. Visiting hours will be today, July 13, from 6 to 8 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to the Berkshire Institute for Christian Studies in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
