Matthew Frank Wilk

Matthew Frank Wilk, 85, of 9 Grant St. died yesterday afternoon at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, Vt. Born in Adams on Nov. 26, 1918, son of Frank and Zofia Bezak Wilk, he attended schools there. An Army veteran of World War II, he enlisted in 1941 and served with the 161st Medical Battalion in the North African and European theaters until his honorable discharge in 1945. Mr. Wilk worked as a winder in the power transformer division of GE in Pittsfield for 35 years, retiring in 1980. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church and a member of the St. Stanislaus Kostka Society. He was a member of American Legion Post 160, the Stamford (Vt.) Golf League, and the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. He also was a member of the Northern Berkshire Retired Men's Club and its bowling league. He and his wife, the former Celia B. Lipinski, were married July 5, 1948. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Cynthia A. Senecal of Sudbury and Christine G. Oldfield of Westford; three sons, Thomas M. Wilk of Charlton, Wayne A. Wilk of Sudbury and Daniel J. Wilk of West Roxbury; two sisters, Josephine Pietras of Adams and Jean Knybel of Holyoke; a brother, Stanley Wilk of Cheshire, and eight grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Matthew F. Wilk will be Thursday, July 15, at 9 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parishes of St. Stanislaus Kostka and Notre Dame-St. Thomas Aquinas. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Namaste Program at the Vermont Veterans Home through the funeral home. He leaves two sons-in-law, William Senecal and Douglas Oldfield; two daughters-in-law, Karen of Charlton and Janet of West Roxbury; eight grandchildren, Jason and Jeffrey Senecal of Sudbury; Sarah and Alex Oldfield of Westford; Thomas and Cole Wilk of Charlton; and Julie and Daniel Wilk of West Roxbury, and many nieces, nephews,grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Thaddeus Wilk, and a sister, Mary Bernat.
