Charles Everett L'Hommedieu Jr

Charles Everett L'Hommedieu Jr., 78, of South Main Street died Wednesday afternoon at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 12, 1925, son of Charles L'Hommedieu Sr. and Signe Johnson L'Hommedieu, he graduated from Smithtown High School in Smithtown, N.Y. Mr. L'Hommedieu entered the Navy Reserve in 1944 and worked as a chief builder during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired from the Naval Reserve in 1985. During his tenure, he was stationed in Cuba, Sicily, Iceland and Vietnam and was a member of the SeaBees. In 1963, he and his family moved to Monterey, where he was a self-employed mason contractor. He had built numerous walls, chimneys and foundations at houses throughout the area. He leaves his wife, the former Nancy Dutcher; three sons, Charles L'Hommedieu III, Matthew L'Hommedieu and Steven L'Hommedieu, all of Cape Cod; three daughters, Shelley Brooks of Ashley Falls, Carrie Van Duesan of Great Barrington and Lori Sawyer of Housatonic; two brothers, Arthur L'Hommedieu of Peoria, Ariz., and Lawrence L'Hommedieu of Washington, N.H., 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Charles Everett L'Hommedieu Jr., 78, of South Street, Great Barrington died Wednesday afternoon, July 14, 2004, at home. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Jim Dutcher of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by two grandsons, Damon Pierce and Adam Brooks.
