Marion W. Smith, 81, formerly of 12 Baker Island Road, died Thursday evening at Hillcrest Commons after a long illness. Born in Winsted, Conn., on Oct. 28, 1922, daughter of Harold and Elsie Phelps Hubbard, she attended schools there. She had resided in Pittsfield for most of her life. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of Pilgrim Memorial Church. Her husband, Donald R. Smith, whom she married Feb. 12, 1952, died Sept. 31, 1981. She leaves a son, Scott C. Smith of Chatham, N.Y.; a daughter, Dona Gingras of Pittsfield, four grandsons and a great-grandson. Another son, David E. Smith, died in 1962. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Marion W. Smith died in Pittsfield on Thursday, July 22, 2004. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 26, at 2 at DWYER FUNERAL HOME. Burial will be in Main Street Cemetery in Dalton. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, the Hillcrest Commons Activity Fund or to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home.
