Douglas G. Poland, 71, of 1338 Washington Mountain Road died Saturday at home after a short illness. He served on the town's Finance Committee, Planning Board and Board of Assessors. Mr. Poland was employed by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Management as forest and park supervisor of Region 5 in Berkshire County. He retired in 2001 with 44 years of service. Born in Concord, son of Robert and Helen Burroughs Poland, he graduated from Acton High School in 1951 and from the Stockbridge School of Forestry. He joined the Army Security Agency in 1952 and served 18 months in Korea. He was discharged in 1955. Mr. Poland was a member of Becket Federated Church. He and his wife, the former Sarah Jewell, were married July 18, 1953. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, William S. Poland of Washington; a daughter, Nancy Poland Blessing of Washington, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Douglas G. Poland of 1338 Washington Mountain Road, who died Saturday, July 24, 2004, will be lovingly missed by his grandchildren, Melissa Poland, Jennifer Poland, Megan Blessing and Ryan Blessing, all of Washington. There will be no services, and the burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Becket Federated Church, P.O.
