Douglas C. Leach

Douglas C. Leach, 75, of 121 Main Road died Tuesday evening at home after a battle with cancer. Born in Springfield on May 17, 1929, son of Earl and Bernice Crandall Leach, he attended Lee High School. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Merchant Marine. Mr. Leach was employed for 30 years by Kimberly-Clark Corp. of Lee, retiring in 1986 as a lab technician. Prior to that, he had operated Berkshire Hills Farm. He was a former assistant scoutmaster for Troop 45, a volunteer and corporate trustee for the Trustees of Reservations, and on the board of directors of the Lee Historical Society. He leaves his wife of 54 years, the former Marion Milton; a son, Kevin D. Leach of Hanover, Ind., and two brothers, Donald E. Leach and James C. Leach, both of Pittsfield. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Douglas C. Leach died peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 27, 2004. The funeral will be conducted Friday at noon at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee by the Rev. Charles Young, hospice chaplain. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery in Lee. Visiting hours will be Friday from 10 until the time of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Trustees of Reservations, HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the Lee Regional Visiting Nurses Association in care of the funeral home. Mr. Leach also leaves a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Leach, and with several nieces and nephews. His sister, Patricia Gundrum, died July 14, 2003.
