Alice Lovato

Alice Lovato, 100, formerly of Ryan Terrace in Housatonic and Boswick Gardens, died yesterday at Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Housatonic on Oct. 31, 1903, daughter of Andrew and Anna Horonzewicy Chrostowski, she attended schools there. Mrs. Lovato was employed by the former Monument Mills and the Rising Paper mill for 10 years, retiring in 1968. She was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church and a former member of its rosary and altar societies. She also was a former member of the Italian Fraternal Society of Lee and the Auxiliary of the former Murphy-Leary Post American Legion in Housatonic. She was a Gold Star Mother. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards and bingo. Her husband, William Lovato, whom she married Feb. 9, 1920, at the former St. Bridget's Church, now All Saints' Church, died Oct. 17, 1982. She leaves a son, Arthur Lovato of San Antonio; a daughter, Augusta White of Great Barrington, nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by two other sons, George C. Lovato in the Army Air Corps in 1944 and William Lovato Jr. in 1940. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Alice Lovato, who died Aug. 10, 2004, will be held Saturday at 9 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at Corpus Christi Church by the Rev. Anthony Jutt, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy in Mrs. Lovato's name may be made to the Corpus Christi Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. She leaves nine grandchildren, David, James, Thomas, Christopher and Marybeth White, Cheryl Congdon, Mark and Jeffrey Lovato and Alicia Breckendorff.
