Claire O. Sullivan

Claire O. Sullivan, 76, of East Street died Tuesday evening at home. Born in Waterbury, Conn., on Aug. 8, 1928, daughter of Joseph B. and Veronica Kelly Owens, she moved to Pittsfield in 1930 and was a 1945 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. She moved to Great Barrington after graduation. Mrs. Sullivan was employed by Kmart in Great Barrington, retiring in 1993. Before that, she worked at the former W.T. Grant Store and for New England Telephone Co. for 20 years. She was on the last shift of operators in the Great Barrington office to work the night shift; the phone company went to dial service in 1965. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church and a member of its Rosary Society, and a member of James A. Modolo Post 8348 Ladies' Auxiliary. She enjoyed genealogy, music and books. Her husband, Thomas J. Sullivan Jr., whom she married Feb. 7, 1948, in St. Peter's Church, died Dec. 14, 1993. She leaves three sons, Timothy J. Sullivan of Alexandria, Va., and Patrick Sullivan and Thomas J. Sullivan III, both of Great Barrington; two daughters, Michele S. Shimmon and Patricia A. Sullivan, both of Great Barrington; a sister, Bernadette Carmel of Pittsfield, and five grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Claire O. Sullivan, who died Sept. 14, 2004, will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 18, at 11 at St. Peter's Church by the Rev. Daniel Papineau, MIC. The family will receive friends tomorrow, Sept. 17, from 4 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter's Ramp Fund or HospiceCare in the Berkshires through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
