Angelo J. DiMario

Angelo J. DiMario, 88, of 46 Railroad St., formerly of Center St., died Sunday at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. Born in Lee on Feb. 25, 1916, son of Diego and Maria Concetta DiMario, he graduated in 1933 from Lee High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball. Mr. DiMario was employed by the former Smith Paper Co. until joining the Army in 1941. After the service, he opened Veterans Market. In 1947, he joined the former Lee Super Market, where he was employed until 1955, when he joined the late Julie Bartini in the operation of the former Main Street Market. From 1960 until retiring in 1978, Mr. DiMario was employed by the former Adams Super Markets. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of Bossidy-Crerar Post 893 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans and G. Marconi Lodge 1620 Sons of Italy. His wife, the former Gladys C. Messina, whom he married June 10, 1946, died Dec. 25, 1991. He leaves a daughter, Lucy A. Roche of Lee; two grandchildren, and a great-grandson. He was predeceased by a son, Richard DiMario in 1957. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Angelo J. DiMario, who died Sept. 12, 2004, will be celebrated Monday at 10 at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours, and KELLY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements. Friends wishing may make donations to St. Mary's School. He leaves his beloved grandchildren, William and Matthew Roche, and his great-grandson, Garrett Angelo Roche.
