Jasper S. Romano

Jasper S. Romano, 91, formerly of Heaton Court, died yesterday morning at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox, where he had resided for two years. Born in Great Barrington on Sept. 27, 1912, son of Frank and Mae Kerrigan Romano, he attended local schools. Mr. Romano was employed for many years at Kimberly-Clark Corp. in Lee as a machine operator until retiring. He had previously been employed as a caretaker at a private estate in Great Barrington, now the site of Camp Eisner. He was a former member of St. James' Episcopal Church in Great Barrington. His wife, the former Myrtle M. Simmons Jones, whom he married Sept. 18, 1962, in First Methodist Church of Lee, died July 16, 1982. He leaves a stepson, Ronald E. Jones of Hinsdale; two stepdaughters, Gloria A. Lawrence of Canaan, N.Y., and Loretta M. Page of Pittsfield; seven stepgrandchildren, and 16 step-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Visiting hours for Mr. Jasper S. Romano, who died Sept. 20, 2004, will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 at ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox. The funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 11 at the funeral home by the Rev. Duncan McQueen. Burial will follow in Stockbridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in his memory to the Eleanor Sonsini Memorial Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home. Mr. Romano is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
