Amy Belknap McGraw

Amy Belknap McGraw, 89, of 253 State Road died Wednesday, at Fairview Hospital. Born in Springfield on May 28, 1915, son of Sumner E. and Rebecca B. Webb Wood, she was a 1933 graduate of West Springfield High School. She moved to Great Barrington in 1946. Mrs. McGraw was employed as a secretary and treasurer of the Strathmore Athletic Association during the 1930s and ‘40s. She also worked as an office secretary at the West Springfield Community YMCA and as a receptionist at Strathmore Paper Co. During World War II, she was a member of the West Springfield Women's Motor Corps local chapter. She was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts, a Girl Scout leader, and a camp director for the Brownies at Camp Bigford on Lake Buel during summer vacations in the mid-1950s. She was a volunteer at the former Visiting Nurse This and That Shop. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, crafts and playing canasta. Her husband, David J. McGraw, whom she married May 23, 1945, died Feb. 13, 1991. She leaves a daughter, Nancy Ruebesam of North Adams; two grandsons, and a great-grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Amy B. McGraw, who died Wednesday, Sept. 22, will be conducted Monday, Sept. 27, at 11 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Charles VanAusdall. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10 to 11 at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy in Amy's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. She leaves her grandsons, Eric Ruebesam of North Carolina and Mark Ruebesam of Adams, and a great-grandson, Tyler. She was predeceased by a brother, Roger Wood, and a sister, Edith Barnfather.
