Donatilda Smith

Donatilda Smith, 83, of 20 Anthony St. died Saturday evening at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in New Bedford on May 13, 1921, daughter of Manuel and Elvira Nunes Freitas, she attended schools there. Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Smith had worked as a bookkeeper at several factories in the New Bedford area. She moved to Adams 20 years ago. Her husband, James Smith, died in 1982. She leaves two granddaughters, Joanna M. Gallivan, with whom she resided, and Jaime L. Gallivan of North Adams, and a great-grandson. Her daughter, Janice D. Gallivan, died July 30, 2000. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Donatilda Freitas Smith will be Thursday, Oct. 14, at 10 at AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams. The Rev. Bonaventure Moccia, CP, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Oct. 13, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through the funeral home. She was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, Armand and Malcolm Freitas. She leaves her great-grandson, Charles J. Gallivan of Adams, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
