Roger Lawrence Cote

Roger Lawrence Cote, 82, of 91 Front St., died yesterday afternoon at home following a brief illness. Born in North Adams on July 20, 1922, son of Albanie and Germaine Pelletier Cote, he attended North Adams schools including the former Notre Dame Parochial School. Mr. Cote was last employed in custodial services at Williams College for more than 15 years, retiring in 1984. He was employed with the former Cascade Paper Co. of North Adams and Potvin Lumber Co. of Stamford, Vt., and earlier with the former Hoosac Cotton Mills in North Adams. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church of North Adams. His wife, the former Viola Florence LaValley, whom he married May 2, 1942, died Jan. 22, 2000. He leaves his stepmother, Doris Cote of North Adams; two daughters, Marie Coody of North Adams and Theresa Barr of Centreville, Md.; three sons, Richard E. Cote and Dennis N. Cote, both of North Adams, and Ronald R. Cote of Sun City Center, Fla.; two brothers, William A. Cote of Adams and Paul O. Cote of South Yarmouth; a sister, Nancy Crouse of Cheshire, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Roger L. Cote will take place Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 68 Marshall St., North Adams, with the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery in North Adams. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are suggested for VNA and Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St., North Adams 01247. He was predeceased by two brothers, Normand E. Cote, who died Aug. 13, 1975, and Ernest G. Cote, who died March 20, 1993.
