Max R. Liebich

Max R. Liebich, 96, of 30 Highland Ave., died Monday at home. Born in Roesendoerff, Germany on March 9, 1908, son of Gustaf and Emma Keller Liebich, he came to Adams in 1922, where he attended school. Mr. Liebich was employed in construction, and became a bridge foreman for several years, building bridges in numerous towns in Vermont. Upon returning to Massachusetts, he was employed by the former Gale Shoe Manufacturing Co. in maintenance and later was a general contractor, building homes in Berkshire County. He retired in 1972. He was a member of the First Congregation Church of Adams and a member of the Board of Deacons and chairman of the Prudential Committee at the church. He also originated the "Every-Member Canvass" in 1941. He conducted workshops for the Young Peoples' Society under the Pilgrim Fellowship for many years. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown and Forest Park Country Club in Adams since 1940, where he served three separate terms as president. His wife, the former Lillian Ashline, whom he married Sept. 14, 1939, died Jan. 23, 1996. FUNERAL NOTICE -- There will be no calling hours. Following cremation, a committal service and memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donors' choice in his memory. MCBRIDE FUNERAL SERVICE is in charge of the arrangements.
