Thomas F. McNamara

Thomas F. McNamara, 85, of 359 State Road, died Wednesday at Fairview Hospital after a short illness. Born in Manhattan, N.Y. on Aug. 9, 1919, son of Daniel and Mary J. Burke McNamara, he attended New York schools and was a 1937 graduate of the High School of Commerce. Mr. McNamara was a World War II Navy veteran. He was employed by Brooks Transportation in New York and moved to Great Barrington in 1947, where he was employed as a rate operator for Palmer Lines and Jones Motor. He later worked for Becton Dickinson as a sterilization operator, retiring in 1993. He was a communicant of St. Peter's Church and enjoyed golf, the Oakland Athletics, Notre Dame football and movie trivia. He leaves his wife of 54 years, the former Mary "Betty" Grogan; a son, Thomas W. McNamara of Vallejo, Calif.; a daughter, Kathy A. McNamara of Oxford, Mass., and a granddaughter. He was predeceased by a son, Robert McNamara, in 1966. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services with military honors for Thomas F. McNamara, who died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, will be Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at St. Peter's Church at 10. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Lee. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, family requests that expressions of sympathy in Thomas' memory may be made to Saint Jude Cancer Research in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington 01230. Survivors include his granddaughter, To Nha, and several nieces and nephews.
