Mariette Marie Getchell

Mariette Marie Getchell, 58, of North Plain Road died yesterday morning at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield following a long illness. Born in Morrisville, Vt., on May 3, 1946, daughter of Ruth Clark Rich of Morrisville and the late Dexter Rich, she was a graduate of Morrisville Academy. In 1991, she graduated from Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield with an associate's degree in human services. She moved to the Berkshires in the 1960s. Mrs. Getchell was an active member of the religious community at the Marian Fathers' National Shrine of the Divine Mercy in Stockbridge and of St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington. She was on the pastoral team at the shrine, was a member of its prayer group and had volunteered at the annual Mercy Sunday service for more than 10 years. At St. Peter's church, she was a eucharistic minister and a member of the Spiritual Life Commission. She also was a founder of the local Lupus Foundation. She and her husband, Ron Getchell, were married April 27, 1968, in Morrisville. Besides her husband and mother, she leaves a son, Brent Getchell of Sheffield; two daughters, Brenda "DeeDee" Ahern of Pittsfield and Wendy Koldys of Sheffield; a brother, Dennis Rich of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Charlene Rich of Morrisville, and five granddaughters. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mariette Getchell, who died Nov. 2, 2004, will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 5, at 10 at St. Peter's Church, Great Barrington, by the Rev. Shaun O'Connor, MIC. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. She also is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jamie; sons-in-law William Ahern and Michael Koldys; five granddaughters, Kelsey, Taylor, Lindsey, Courtney and Lillee, and with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Phillip Rich. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lupus Foundation through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
