Verne F. "Zeke" Harrington

Verne F. "Zeke" Harrington, 79, of 7 Quality St. died Saturday afternoon at home. Born in Covington, Pa., on March 7, 1925, son of Orville and Lottie Fitzroy Harrington, he was raised in Adams and attended local schools. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific theater. He re-enlisted following the war, and was honorably discharged in 1950. Mr. Harrington was employed for 25 years in the maintenance department of the Adams Cheshire Regional School District, retiring 20 years ago. Earlier, he worked at the town's waste water treatment plant, at the former Rochester Paper Co. and at the former Jones Beloit Co. in Dalton. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame & St. Thomas and a member of American Legion Post 160. He and his wife, the former Ruth M. Bishop, were married August 19, 1949. Besides his wife, he leaves five sons, Martin Harrington of Milford, N.H., Marshal Harrington of Cheshire, and Michael Harrington, Matthew Harrington and Mark Harrington, all of Adams; two daughters, Michele Pause of Savoy and Melissa Misiuk of Corona, Calif.; five sisters, Dorothy Parmalee of Williamstown, Doris Marcil of Adams, Agnes Bugbee of Savoy, Lenore Brooks of Pittsfield and Evelyn Teot of Irvine, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Verne F. "Zeke" Harrington, who died Oct. 30, 2004, will be Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 9 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church in Adams celebrated by Mr. Harrington's nephew, the Rev. Jeddie P. Brooks, pastor of St. Patrick's Parish in Monson. Burial will follow in Maple Street Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners' Children's Hospital or VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home. He also leaves his daughters-in-law, Cindy of Milford, N.H., Mary of Adams, Kate of Cheshire, and his son Michael's companion, Cheryl Horn of Adams; his sons-in-law, Donald Pause and Robert Misiuk; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Lyle and Irvin Harrington.
