Stephen F. Sherman Sr

Stephen F. Sherman Sr., 58, of 49 Richmond St. died Wednesday afternoon at North Adams Regional Hospital after suffering a heart attack at home. Born in Pittsfield on May 15, 1946, son of Donald W. and Hazel Fish Sherman, he graduated from Wahconah Regional High School in 1964. At the time of his death, Mr. Sherman had been employed as a salesman and branch partner for Indoff, a nationwide distributor of business products, for seven years. He was first employed by the former Gowdy Shandoff, formerly E.P. Gowdy, and, from 1969 to 1980, by Crane & Co. as a foreman in the stationery division. In 1980, he returned to Gowdy Shandoff, where he was head of commercial office supply sales. He was a member of Bethel Pentecostal Church in North Adams, where he served as bookkeeper. He played drums in area bands, including The Carvers, Good Time Habit and Us. He enjoyed cooking and playing golf. He and his wife, the former Gail M. Lawrence, were married Feb. 15, 1975. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Stephen F. Sherman Jr. of Loxahatchee, Fla., and Paul M. Sherman of Adams; a stepson, Louis R. Sibbio III of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a daughter, Gloria Harrison of Phoenix; a brother, Alexander Sherman of Woodbridge, Va., and a granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Stephen Francis Sherman Sr., who died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, will be Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 9:30 from the DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME followed by services at 11 at Bethel Pentecostal Church, 55 Harding Ave., North Adams, with the Rev. Dennis C. Castella, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours for Mr. Sherman will be Monday, Nov. 8, from 4 to 8 at the funeral home, 121 North State Road, Cheshire. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Sherman may be made to Cheshire Fire and Rescue or the Bethel Pentecostal Church, both in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 445, Cheshire, MA 01225. Survivors include his granddaughter, Britany. Mr. Sherman was predeceased by a brother, Christopher Sherman.
