Armand Peter Solari

Armand Peter Solari, 91, of 32 Woodlawn Ave. died yesterday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was admitted Friday. Born in the Hoosac Tunnel section of Rowe on June 21, 1913, son of Ernest and Severina Buletti Solari, he attended schools in Cheshire, Adams and North Adams, including Drury High School. A Navy veteran of World War II, he first enlisted in 1932 and served until 1936, then re-enlisted in 1943. He was honorably discharged Nov. 13, 1945, with the rank of seaman, first class. Mr. Solari was employed for 12 years in the buildings and grounds department of North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, until retiringin 1978. Prior to that, he had worked for the former Warren Wire Co. in Pownal, Vt., for 15 years. He first worked for the former Montagna Bakery, then the former Arnold Print Works and, in 1936, joined GE in Pittsfield. After the war, he worked for Porter and Hatfield Plumbers and the Ashley Wood Plumbing Co. He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church. He was a member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a fan of the Patriots and the Yankees. His wife, the former Frances Mary Kendrick, whom he married May 15, 1939, in St. Francis' Church, died Sept. 9, 1999. He leaves a son, John Ernest Solari of Clarksburg; a sister, Rita Lemanski of Adams; a brother, Peter Solari of North Adams, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Armand Solari, who died Nov. 8, 2004, will be Thursday at 10:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to VNA & Hospice of North Berkshire or to Elder Services in care of the funeral home. Survivors include two grandchildren, Trent Solari and Casi Solari, and nieces and nephews. A brother, Alfred Solari, and a sister, Lena Calvano are deceased.
