Robert A. Friberg

Robert A. Friberg, 73, of Lake Shore Drive, a former Becket selectman, died Tuesday at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Springfield on May 12, 1931, son of John and Beda Holmberg Friberg, he moved to Becket 22 years ago. Mr. Friberg was employed as a firefighter for the city of Springfield from March 21, 1962, to Dec. 31, 1974. He was also the owner of Friberg Tile Co. in Springfield for many years. He was a member of the Springfield Fire Department Privates' Club and Local 648 International Association of Firefighters. He was also a member of the Indian Orchard Lodge of Masons for 49 years, the Masonic Lodge of Springfield, the Melha Shriners and its Mounted Patrol, Hadji and Vintage Car Units, along with the Berkshire Shrine Club. He leaves his wife, the former Lillian Hazlett of Becket; a son, John Friberg of Belchertown; two daughters, Sandra Davey of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Susan Boucher of Hampden; a brother, Henry Friberg of Hampden; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services will be held today at 10 at NOWAK FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, 15 Ludlow Ave., Indian Orchard (at Ludlow bridge) followed by burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Calling hours were Friday from 4 to 7. A Masonic ritual was held Friday at 6:45. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield 01104. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Elaine; two sons-in-law, Richard and Joel; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Friberg of Belchertown, John Friberg of West Springfield, Christopher Davey, USCG of New Bedford, Alison Davey of Newark, Del., Jamie Martin of Springfield and Nicole Boucher of Cambridge; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Martin of East Longmeadow and Mykenzie Davey of New Castle, Pa.; two brothers-in-law, John Hazlett in Japan and Robert Hazlett of Springfield, and several nieces and nephews.
