William Winn

William Winn, 79, formerly of Silver Street, died Tuesday at his home in Elizabethtown, N.C., where he had resided for eight years. Born in Great Barrington on Jan. 10, 1925, son of Madeline Winn, he attended local schools and graduated from the former Searles High School in 1943. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy running landing craft LCVP at Omaha Beach. Mr. Winn was the former tree warden of Great Barrington and owned and operated Winn Tree and Trucking Service Co. and the Mill River Sand and Stone Co. He also worked for the former Clark Aiken Co. in Lee, drove a bus for Massini Bus for many years and worked for the Berkshire Hills Regional School District's maintenance department. He was a lifetime member of James A. Modolo Post 8348 VFW in Great Barrington and for several years was the co-owner of the Nos. 2 and 200 cars that formerly raced every Saturday night at Lebanon Valley Speedway in New York state. He leaves his wife, Judy; a daughter, Pat Schoonmaker of Southfield; two brothers, Donald Winn of Marlboro, Conn., and Richard Winn of Agawam; a grandson and a great-grandson. His first wife, Betty Winn, died April 15, 1985. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for William Winn will be Saturday, Nov. 20 at 11 at FINNERTY AND STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 until the time of the service. He is survived by his wife, Judy Winn at home; his daughter, Pat Schoonmaker and her husband, Fred, of Southfield; two brothers, Donald Winn of Marlboro, Conn., and Richard Winn of Agawam; his close grandson and friend, Michael Shawn Winn and his wife, Jessica of Sheffield and a great-grandson, Michael William Winn.
