Ruth Margaret Berridge

Ruth Margaret Berridge, 83, of 130 Church St. died Monday at North Adams Regional Hospital, where she was admitted Nov. 11. Born in Cambridge on March 4, 1921, daughter of William A. and Ruth Reid Berridge, she attended schools there. She also attended Radcliffe College and the Rhode Island School of Design. She spent her childhood summers in South Egremont, where her parents owned a home for many years, and had returned there from New York City to care for her mother in the mid-1970s. She later moved to Stockbridge and, in 1985, to North Adams. Ms. Berridge was the owner and operator of a jewelry design company in New York City for many years, with Neiman Marcus as one of her larger accounts. An active animal rights advocate, she was a member of the Berkshire Advocates Network for Animals. She also was active in the Berkshire Vegetarian Network. She leaves a nephew and a niece. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Ruth M. Berridge died Nov. 15, 2004. At her request, there will be no funeral services; the omission of flowers is requested. Any memorial donations are suggested to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter of Pittsfield or to any animal rights organizations of the donor's choice through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements. She also leaves her cat, Blackie, and several friends. Her sister, Katherine B. Sohler, died Nov. 2, 1987. She was an advocate for the separation of church and state.
