Charles W. Ambery

Charles W. Ambery, 59, of Beaver Dam Road died Friday at home of prostate cancer. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 8, 1945, son of Thomas J. and Mary A. Ambery, he was a graduate of St. Francis' College in Brooklyn. He resided on Riverside Drive in New York City for many years. He bought a home in Lee in 1974, moving there full time after his retirement. He served in the New York National Guard. Mr. Ambery was employed by United States Trust Co. of New York for 29 years, retiring in 1995 as vice president of the real estate department. He also was a licensed real estate broker in New York state. He completed the New York City Marathons in 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992. He was an avid Giants fan and enjoyed gardening, carpentry and nature. He and his wife, the former Judith M. Cox, were married Oct. 2, 1965. Besides his wife, he leaves two brothers, George Ambery of Breezy Point, N.Y., and Paul Ambery of Staten Island, N.Y., and three sisters, Margaret Ryan of Breezy Point, Catherine King of Millbrook, N.Y., and Mary Burns of Eastchester, N.Y. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial Mass for Charles M. Ambery, who died Nov. 26, 2004, will be held Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2 at St. Mary's Church, Main Street, Lee. If desired, memorial donations may be made for the benefit of Charles' nephew, Robert Ambery. Make checks payable to FAAP (Foundation for the Advancement of Autistic Persons) and send to Judith M. Ambery, P.O. Box 88, Lee, MA 01238. He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Robert Ambery. He was an inspiration to his family and friends, and will be missed greatly. He touched many lives with his warmth, friendliness, helpfulness and kindness. He exhibited incredible perseverance and never quit anything, including his courageous battle to survive cancer.
