Marion Selma Kennedy

Marion Selma Kennedy, 79, of 7 Grandview Terrace, died Thursday afternoon at North Adams Commons. Born in Utica, N.Y., on May 8, 1925, a daughter of the late John and Ida Coury Peters, she moved to Adams as a child with her family, and attended Adams schools, graduating from the former Adams High School. She was a graduate of McDowell's Dress Design School in New York City. Mrs. Kennedy worked as a draftsman at General Electric Co. in Pittsfield from 1945 until 1965. She then worked as an aide for the Title I program in the Adams Cheshire Regional School District from 1965 until 1975. She finally worked as an administrative secretary at the former North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, from 1975 until her retirement in 1993. She was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame and St. Thomas Aquinas, Adams. She was a member of the Adams Turners, and was an avid volleyball player for many years. She leaves her husband of 49 years, Robert E. Kennedy, whom she married Oct. 29, 1955; a daughter, Pamela A. Gerry of Adams; a brother, Joseph Peters of Adams; a sister, Zowd Joseph of North Adams, and a granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral will be held on Monday, Dec. 6, at 9 from Auge-Paciorek-Simmons Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parishes of Notre Dame and St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Stanislaus Kostka, Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital through the funeral home. Mrs. Kennedy also leaves a son-in-law, Walt Gerry of Adams; a granddaughter, Ericca Gerry of Adams, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. "As I leave this world at such a blessed time of the year I will be at peace now. I will miss my beloved husband, daughter, granddaughter, family and friends. You never left my side through all these difficult years. I will love you always. To my friends and caretakers at North Adams Commons, I am so grateful for your loving care, genuine smiles, and mostly your friendship. Your kindness to me and my family will always be with me. I will spend Christmas in a glorious place with God, Our Lord and the Blessed Virgin Mary, but I will live in your hearts forever. Merry Christmas, and good health to all of you!
