Robert E. Ames Sr

Robert E. Ames Sr., 73, of 688 Walker St. died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital after a long illness. Born in Endicott, N.Y., on Sept. 30, 1931, son of Clare R. and Helen Parker Ames, he attended schools there. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served as a private first class. Mr. Ames was employed by the former General Cable Co. in Pownal, Vt., for 40 years and later worked at Mack Molding Co., also in Pownal. He retired in the early 1990s. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and collecting coins. Besides his wife, the former Margaret Benoit, he leaves two daughters, Wendy Duprea of Clarksburg and Cynthia Duplisea of North Adams; two sons, Lloyd C. Ames and Robert E. Ames Jr., both of Clarksburg; four sisters, Geraldine Bush of Binghamton, N.Y., Marion Schuma of Pennsylvania, Marie Bingham of California and Bonita Ames; a brother, Charles Ames of Putney, Vt., and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Private services for Robert E. Ames Sr. will be conducted Wednesday at 10 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME for FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, by the Rev. Donald Gray, pastor of First Baptist Church of Adams. Burial will follow with military honors in the family plot in Southview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Western Massachusetts Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home. Survivors include three grandchildren, Heath Hebert, Brandy Hebert and Adam Brazeau, and two sons-in-law, Ronald Duprea and Keith Duplisea. He was predeceased by two brothers, Clare Ames and Lloyd Ames.
