Sylvia Bond

Sylvia Bond, 93, of Kimball Farms died Tuesday at its Nursing Care Center. Born in New York City on June 2, 1911, daughter of Samuel and Rose Bellows Bond, she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School there. She earned a bachelor's degree from Columbia University and a master's degree in education from Adelphi University. Mrs. Bond was a teacher in the Levittown, N.Y., public school system for nearly 20 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and a docent at the Katonah Art Museum, and was actively involved in a variety of programs at Kimball Farms. She enjoyed history, literature, fine arts and gardening. She and her husband, Harvey M. Bond, were married June 24, 1937. Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Deborah Bond Berk of Weston; a son, Stephen R. Bond of Paris; two sisters, Ella Farnum of Brookline and Edith Dickerman of the state of Florida, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Sylvia Bond, who died Dec. 7, 2004, will be held Friday at noon at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield. There will be no calling hours. Following the memorial service, guests may join the family in the Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center dining room. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Literacy Project, c/o Soho Center for Arts and Education Inc., 1564 West Hoover Road, Madison, VA 22727. She leaves her son-in-law, Steven Berk; daughter-in-law, Bruna Bond, and four grandchildren, Catherine Ponset-Bond, Matthew Bond, Alexandra Berk and Elizabeth Berk. A brother, Robert Bond, predeceased her.
