Helen Frances Mazzoli

Helen Frances Mazzoli, 77, of 34 First St., died yesterday morning at home. Born in Adams on Aug. 6, 1927, daughter of Peter and Helen Szpila Kurpaska, she attended St. Stanislaus' School, and graduated from the former Adams High School in 1945 and from the Holyoke Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1948. Mrs. Mazzoli was employed at North Adams Regional Hospital for 29 years, retiring in 1990. Earlier, she had worked at the former W.B. Plunkett Memorial Hospital, and briefly at hospitals in Connecticut, California and Nevada. She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church and a member of the Massachusetts and American nurses' associations, and the Massachusetts PAN, and helped organize the North Adams Retired Nurses Association. She enjoyed walking, playing cards, strawberry picking, high school sports, and vacationing at Misquamicut, R.I. She leaves two daughters, Donna Czubryt of Adams and Cynthia Wittig of Lisle, N.Y.; a brother, Anthony Kurpaska of Cheshire; a sister, Eugenia Zaiken of Springfield, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Helen Frances Kurpaska Mazzoli, who died Dec. 18, 2004, will be Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 10 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 celebrated in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church by Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parishes of St. Stanislaus Kostka and Notre Dame-St. Thomas Aquinas, Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Care Campaign at North Adams Regional Hospital, directed to the operating room renovation in memory of Helen Mazzoli, through the funeral home. Survivors include her son-in-law, Richard Wittig, and four grandchildren, Keith Czubryt and Carly Czubryt, both of Adams, and Kristen Wittig and Kurt Wittig, both of Lisle, N.Y., and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Stanley P., Casimer, Stephen and Stanley W. Kurpaska, and two sisters, Terry Viani and Frances Socha.
